The Packer Collegiate Institute is an independent, coeducational day school for Pre-K through 12th grade on a historic campus in Brooklyn Heights, one subway stop from Lower Manhattan. Founded on Joralemon Street in 1845, Packer now serves more than 1,000 students across the main campus and the Early Learning Center a block away on Clinton Street, running an academic program that balances rigorous coursework with social-emotional growth.
Solicito and Son handled the landscape design for Packer's outdoor recreational and sitting areas, reworking the grounds into a space students and faculty use between classes. The stonework anchored the project: a stone patio and stone walkways run across the site, backed by a retaining wall and custom masonry detailing that ties into the campus's historic brick and stone buildings.
Custom benches went into the sitting areas, giving students a place to gather without crowding the walkways. We set planters along the patio and walkway edges and planted them out, then ran an irrigation and drainage system across the site to keep the grounds maintained through every season.
