Utica Crescent is one of the anchor projects in New York State's Vital Brooklyn Initiative, delivering 322 fully affordable apartments to East Flatbush. Designed by Bernheimer Architecture and developed by Monadnock Development, Equity Developers, and CB-Emmanuel, the two-tower property gives residents smart building technology, building-wide wireless internet, and income bands that reach working families and elderly, frail seniors alike. Beyond housing, the site brings a grocery store, community facility space for multiple organizations, and a dialysis center operated by the One Brooklyn Health System right into the neighborhood.

Solicito and Son handled the landscape design and plantings across Utica Crescent, starting at ground level. In the parking lot and around the building's exterior, our crew landscaped the grounds, setting custom planters and gardening the beds that line the property.

The outdoor seating area, where residents gather and lounge, got the most attention. Our landscape design work was concentrated here: we built a stone patio and custom seating, framed the space with fencing, and installed artificial turf to keep the lounge area green and low-maintenance year-round. Custom planters went in throughout, breaking up the patio and softening the fence line with greenery. We also built out a small dog park on the property, giving residents with pets their own turfed spot separate from the main seating area.
