Utica Crescent is one of the anchor projects in New York State's Vital Brooklyn Initiative, delivering 322 fully affordable apartments to East Flatbush. Designed by Bernheimer Architecture and developed by Monadnock Development, Equity Developers, and CB-Emmanuel, the two-tower property gives residents smart building technology, building-wide wireless internet, and income bands that reach working families and elderly, frail seniors alike. Beyond housing, the site brings a grocery store, community facility space for multiple organizations, and a dialysis center operated by the One Brooklyn Health System right into the neighborhood.

Terrain was the landscape architect on Utica Crescent. Solicito and Son assisted with the install, plantings, and hardscaping across the site. In the parking lot and around the building's exterior, our crew landscaped the grounds, setting custom planters and gardening the beds that line the property.

The outdoor seating area, where residents gather and lounge, got the most attention. Most of our work was concentrated here: we set the paver patio and the garden counter, then framed the space with fencing. Custom planters went in throughout. We also planted the green roof, built out a wooden deck, and ran the irrigation.
